Top 10 New Year's Resolutions - My Way

While looking for something interesting to put up on the blog at this time of the year when new year eve is on the blocks i can only think about either the memories of the past year or about the upcoming new year, to be more specific The New Year Resolutions for 2009.

So i found out this Website which happens to list the Top 10 New year resolutions ( don't know from which part of the world ) and i thought of writing my own versions of these new year resolutions the way i am planning to follow them. So have a look...

1. Spend More time with Friends and Family : Spending time with my friends has been on Top of my wish-list any day of the year, but with family its always been hard, reason -  

a.) i live too far from them b.) Attitude ( not mine of course )

Lets hope things become better in 2009

2. Fit in Fitness : The last important thing i did in 2008 to maintain my body fitness was to join Swimming classes in the nearby swimming pool. First it was good to learn swimming at last and next its giving me much needed body workout which i was kind of missing like forever. So i m going to continue with this swimming thing in 2009 too.

3. Tame the Bulge : Weight 76 kg, Height 188Cm's that's the most perfect Body height - weight ratio i can ever achieve, but lately i can found a little bulging out of waistline since past some time. So i guess its the time to get going to Gym apart from regular swimming classes. Here i go for 2,4,6,8,10 packs. lol...

4. Quit Smoking : 'Quit' when did i even started, but yes i will try not to be a Passive smoker and try help ( or force ) the guys around me quit smoking.

5. Enjoy Life More : That's something i never try to do, Enjoying. Reason : Nothing Specific, earlier i used to think that i have had my part of fun from life ( i was wrong !) and its time to work seriously and hard and hence stopped doing crazy stuff i enjoy ( i m not going to tell about this) , but lately i realised that its kind of hard to live without enjoying and more importantly for me without doing my stuff. So 2009 here i come with some very crazy things on the floor to roll, and i am gonna enjoy the life more than anything else.

6. Quit Drinking : Quit Drinking , What ? Water, i guess not because since i am kind of away from other drinking stuff like tea , coffee , Alcohol , Cola since forever now. So giving up on water drinking will stop lubrication process in my body. So i am gonna drink as much as of water in 2009 and no Alcohol, are you sure !

7. Get out of Debt : That's Americana's way of living under Debt right from 18 to 81. My current account status is positive and i guess shall always be. Stipend from IIIT right now is the only source of income for me and i guess its more then enough for me. So 2009 is going to be Debt free year once again. May i ll be able to save some moolah for my wish list too.

8. Learn Something New : Kick Boxing , Playing Guitar , Swimming , Singing may be , perhaps ! most importantly Research in Computer science which is going to be the most crucial new thing to learn in 2009 for me. SOS !! 

9.Help Others : 24x7 , 366(5) days a year i am ready for this and guess what i enjoy this more than anything else in world. So in 2009 i will look forward to help as many as souls as possible. My Pleasure, Always !

10. Get Organized : Yes this is the one thing i definitely missed out during the later half of the 2008, BTW i have been a good kid since a long time but the life @ IIIT didn't left time for me to organize my self and left a lot of mess on my desk, So i gotta get up and clear the mess now and get organized. Because as i say Its Now or Never. 

So 2009 here i come with all the above resolutions to follow with time.

Happy New Year to everyone and anyone who reads and try to follow something similar to what i have written above.

Genius is one percent inspiration and 99 percent perspiration...Not Anymore...

Mr. Thomas Alva Edison once quoted the above statement saying "Genius is one percent inspiration and 99 percent perspiration ".

This saying or quote (or whatever) might have worked for people in Edison's time but today the balance has changed quite a bit, at-least what i have observed and believed.

Vulnerability in Google Authentication Service

There is a vulnerability in the way Google authentication service works. Whenever you login to any of the Google's online services like GMail, Orkut, Groups, Docs, Youtube, Calendar etc., you are redirected to an authentication server which authenticates against the entered username and password and redirect back to the required service (GMail, Youtube etc.) setting the session variables.

Now, if you are able to grab the url used to set the session variables, you can login as the user to whom that url belongs from any machine on the Internet (need not be the machine belonging to the same subnet) without entering the username and password of the user.

The proxy servers in the organizations can be used to exploit this vulnerability. Squid is the most popular proxy server used. In the default configuration, squid strips the query terms of a url before logging. So, this vulnerability can't be exploited. But if you turn off the stripping mechanism by adding the line shown below, then squid will log the complete url.

So, after turning stripping mechanism off, the log will contain urls which will look like this

Replace .co.in with your tld specific to your country. If you paste this url in any browser, it'll directly log you in and you can do whatever you want to that account. Remember that all such urls remains valid only for two minutes. So, if you use that url after two minutes, it'll lead nowhere.

At the time of writing this post Orkut, Google Docs, Google Calendar, Google Books and Youtube are vulnerable.

So, make sure your squid has stripping mechanism turned on and your squid server is properly firewalled.

The Weekend waste - QoS ,Fashion, Golmaal Returns

The weekend was dedicated completely to movies. It had been a long time since I saw any movie, my last visit was for Kidnap, and I’d come back sorely disappointed. Next whole month was not at all conducive for movie watching, with pathetic releases, and the good releases coming during Diwali when I was blissfully gaining some kgs at home.

So I started the movie marathon with Quantum of Solace. As usual I had very high expectations of Bond, but he failed to deliver anything special. The cameraman was so high on adrenaline during action sequences he was not able to hold the camera stable at all, almost all action sequences were “shaky”. There were no gadgets from the future, no sexy cars; all James Bond had was a high-end cell phone. Till now all Bond movies had shown the finger to reality - Bond leaping off a cliff, getting into a plane mid-air to escape, Bond jumping on a hot-air balloon, Bond on a speed boat that runs underwater too, a car that turns invisible [ok, this one was a tad tacky]. This time there is nothing, and I mean nothing to make you believe that Bond is someone special with access to cool gadgets. He is nothing but Jason Bourne this time around.

Next up on the agenda was Fashion. Madhur Bhandarkar again gives a realistic movie, but it was too slow for my taste… Maybe it was the sumptuous lunch I had just before the movie that was working its wonders, maybe it was the slowness of the movie, but I was definitely nodding off. Page 3 was mind-blowing, after that Madhur Bhandarkar has never been able to match himself.

Golmaal Returns was the last movie for the weekend. And that was I’d say the best movie I saw in the weekend… Totally senseless, and total timepass movie. There was rarely a moment when I got bored. With ample references to earlier movies - Golmaal, Tashan, Black, and Ekta Kapoor serails - this movie rocked. Loved the bit where Tushar Kapoor’s sister in the movie [Kareena] is named Ekta and shown to be a K-Series addict and the way the soap names are used in the dialogues. No sense, all fun - that I how I’d term this movie.

PS : It's been a long time since i watched movies back to back, it was a weird experience since i was kind of hooked up with TV series for a while and watching movies for a change that too such bad ones was not at all a good idea or may be i should be more careful with the selection of movies i watch or may be i should get back to good old TV series, atleast they make me laugh.  :)

The Namdaemun fire

The 2008 Namdaemun fire was an arson fire set by Korean citizen Chae Jong-gi that occurred on the Namdaemun, the most historically significant gate in Seoul, South Korea, and the first of that nation's National Treasures, on the date of February 10,2008. Needless to mention the damage caused by the Fire.

MAHA PRALAY (ARMAGEDDON ) on INDIA TV

Insult of Science & the scientists who dedicated their entire life

to serve mankind... isn't it funny instead of appreciating their efforts

wasting time in spreading such negative thoughts & rumors.

I have been following the making of the LHC (Large Hadron Collider). Well, it is true that the machine did raise a lot of questions not just on India TV but across the world. There was a lot of hate-mail for the scientists too. But every person dedicated knew that though the particle accelerator (maha machine) generated huge amounts of energy, it still wasn't enough to cause a black hole. The machine took about 20 years to build and is currently as of today undergoing some repairs. But this machine will provide answers to the present generation and will raise new questions to the future. After all, that's what science is. The race to get the answers.

I Just hope India TV take such experiments seriously and stop being so Awful with everything they show on TV.

The Diwali Celebration @ IIIT

This year also like the past 4 years i was not able to visit my home for diwali celebration due to many illogical reasons which were supported by just my insanity and nothing else. Never mind, hope so in upcoming year down the lines once my academic career is finished i will be able to visit my place during one of these big Festivals during the year. 

So this year the diwali celebration happened to be here in the IIIT campus , due to the dullness factor involved during the past few days before diwali i was forced to believe that this diwali is going to suck big time like the ones i used to have in Kanpur until the last year, but as the day progressed after finishing one of my assignment due on diwali ( can you believe assignment deadline on diwali, its insane !!! ) i came to know people here in the campus are not so dull towards the festival and as the natural light of sun started leaving the campus environment the students from their respective dungeons n caves ( or Hostels.. what ever you want to call ) came out in air and started putting lights across the campus and with in no time it was nothing less than an awesome sight seen in the campus with all those twinkling lights on the roads and various buildings.

 At last good to know that people in this part of country ( as in IIIT ) do believe in spending time in activities other than Research , phew... 1 hour struggling with the lights and the campus was ready to start with the Diwali Pooja ( ~Prayer ) followed by the most awaited part of the festival , The crackers which were surprisingly sponsored by the institute, i would like to make a point here that the institute is lacking funds for research but it is still able to fund a large bundle to cracker lot for the students , nothing to say that's how it is in India and especially in Research institutes.

 Anyways after a short break for an awful dinner , which was supposed to be diwali special but happened to be nothing better than any other meal. After the dinner the sound blasts and lights forced me to be in the main field which was crowded like never before with IIIT students of-course , but none of them were looking like one as they were not talking about Academic activities as it is always. It was diwali and they knew it very well and thus the cracking of fire started with a blast and went for another 2-2.30 hours.

 As for me like the past 3 years i kept my hands off from the fire not because i am afraid or something but its just the way i suppose there are better ways to waste money than to burn them and enjoy the blast , smoke and light. The members of the IIIT Photography club were also active during all this happening and hence i got some of the photographs of the celebration.

So in the end the day ended well with the submission of the pending assignment and some wonderful memories of my very first festival celebration at IIIT and one of the very few days when i felt good about the people here and more over about my-self.

As the time evolves people try new things in life and try to leave old things back  , so as for me i am trying the former one that is trying a new thing which is as a matter of fact you might had guessed is BLOGGING.

People say blogging was cool like 2 years back and since everyone from Lalu Prasad Yadav to Bill Gates do it now its no longer so kool now , but who cares neither i am Lalu nor aspiring to be Bill Gates so here i go with something matching to my interest of writing anything and everything coming into my mind with my first random Blog.
